The Rumours Are True!!

Yes, I can confirm that the rumours are true about my latest beauty experiment.

I haven't washed my hair for four-and-a-half weeks!!

(With shampoo and conditioner, that is. I still rinse it in the shower).

At first it felt like hell but in the last week it's turned a corner and IT FEELS FINE!!

I'M NEVER USING SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER AGAIN!!

The end.

Hmmm.... this is all very interesting. I've been reading some material recently about how male pattern baldness can be prevented by ditching the shampoo and conditionner... As a 19 year old with a slowly (and prematurely, in my opinion) receding hairline, I have to say I'm tempted to give it a go... But I don't think I can face how foul its going to look (and smell) for a couple of weeks.
And I suppose it doesn't really work if you use syling products, does it? Because then you just end up with disgusting product build-up and even dirtier hair. Hmm...Smelly, greasy hair + no styling products = receding hairline might be worth it.

Well, actually, your hair doesn't smell as you still rinse it, just no shampoo and conditioner.

I don't use many hair products anyway... just heat protectant spray when I GHD my hair and stuff... but to get build up out you can do an apple cider vinegar rinse (one part vinegar to 12 parts water) in the shower. Makes it nice and shiny too.

I occasionally rub a paste of baking soda mixed with a bit of water into my scalp (say once a week or so) which gets rid of build up there too.

And I've read that about helping with baldness too. My hair definitely feels thicker and it's grown over the past five weeks.

Also apparently it stops you going grey prematurely too!

It feels feral for a couple of weeks. But you have to make sure you brush your hair properly morning and night and rinse it with water every second day or so.

I've always hated my hair. I was born with dry hair (swimming competitively for 15 years didn't help either). But it's feeling a lot healthier now.

I.... don't know quite what to say....

part of me is disgusted while the other part is intrigued...

at least we'll be able to tell who Town Bike is now - she's the one standing at the bar with manky hair...

That's the other awesome thing. I have more money to spend on booze now because I'm not SPENDING A SMALL FORTUNE ON BLOODY KERASTASE!!

Giving away all my hair products/treatments was quite liberating.

To think... all these years, all I had to do to achieve hair Nirvana was nothing...

Ick.

Why do you misguided fools not understand that my hair is not any dirtier than anyone else's?

You really think that putting detergent in your hair is good for it?

No thanks.

The only thing I'm worried about is going to the hairdresser for my eight-week trim next week.

I'm scared of being berated and ridiculed when I ask them to skip the shampoo and conditioner.

Maybe I should just have a dry cut? Hmmm. But I really love the orgasmic scalp massages.

By the way. This works much better on brunettes than it does on blondes.

Wow i'm impressed! So you'll go sans shampoo forever? Did your hair smell during the first few weeks? Did you use the apple cider vinegar and bicarb soda during this time, or previously?

Town Bike said...

Yes I will go sans shampoo forever.

No my hair didn't smell because I still rinsed it. But it did feel gross and weird while the natural oils sorted themselves out. (The theory is that shampoo strips your natural oils so you get that 'squeaky clean' feeling, so you then need conditioner to make it soft again)

I only started using the apple cider vinegar and bicarb after about 10 days. And I've only done it 3 or so times in total since then.

Realistically, it's not for everyone. Your hair will feel yuck at first. But I'm happy with the way it's turned out and I haven't even finished 6 weeks yet. So hopefully there is more room for improvement.

Yes shampoo apparently is designed to make you need it more by stripping the oils. Half the 702 listeners partook in that challenge and its proven to be true.

It's a placebo more than anything. A nasty, expensive placebo!!

Your hair is capable of regulating itself.
