LOL! You love a good "cover-up", don't you?
Well, I think, not really knowing much about her besides what I just read in the wikipedia link, that it seems unlikely....As the article states, had she been lobotomised its bizarre that no record of it exists, given that extensive records were generally kept and a lobotomy wasn't quite exactly a shameful thing to have done.. and the main perpetuators of the myth have since come clean and admitted they used her lobotomy as a dramatic tool in their work. Of course you could say its all an elaborate cover-up; records can be destroyed and people bribed and intimidated... but why? Admittedly Hollywood is very smoke and mirrors in terms of the way they present their stars, but given the fact her career was pretty much in tatters and she was penniless by the time she was admitted into pyschiatric care, and her mental problems had been well-documented in the press, it seems unlikely there would be people around her going into 'damage-comtrol' mode to hide the truth of a starlet's insanity.
Though I could be missing something.. Is it something to do with her being a communist sympathiser.. I think I vaguely remember reading a theory like that once.
My great grandmother had a lobotomy - afterwards she lost her sense of taste and smell, and ended up dying of lung cancer because she used to burn all her food and eat the charcoal-ly bits... actually that sounds like a bit of a family myth now that I write it down...

P.S. I don't think Frances Farmer actually had a labotomy. I think she was a class-A attention seeker. And I will try and think up a new post at home tonight. Can someone give me inspiration for a topic? I'm losing mine.
